However, Jean-Baptiste Estienne, a French general, came up with the idea of a light tank that could help infantry. However, the first tanks were built during World War I (1914 1918) and tended to be very heavy and clumsy. The tank was one of the most important weapons of World War II. Estienne decided on the last, that of a light tank crewed by two men, which could be made using a maximum of mass-produced parts, enabling quicker and less expensive manufacture.
